Freda Evans - CFO of JSE Limited

Freda is a CA(SA) qualifying with Ernst & Young in 1978. Since then she has served in a number of positions in commerce and industry, and has been with the JSE Limited since 2000.

She is the CFO of the South African securities exchange, JSE Limited (JSE), and has, since 2000, overseen the transition from reporting in compliance with SA GAAP to reporting in compliance with IAS and in 2003, IFRS. The JSE, although not a listed company, complies with its own listings requirements as far as possible and this has given them an in depth insight into the requirements of IFRS. In exploring ways of making this process easier for itself, the JSE has found XBRL to be useful. In December 2004, the JSE became the first stock exchange in the world to post its annual financial statements onto the web using this digital technology and IFRS. The JSE is now in the process of automating the process.
